Coffee Use and Longitudinal Blood Pressure Change in Men and Women: The Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging
By:
Published on 2007 by ProQuest
This ebook tells about Over 85% of adults in the United States consume caffeine daily, primarily in the form of coffee. Caffeine has demonstrated addictive qualities, including tolerance and withdrawal, and may affect cardiovascular health. Coffee use has been associated with cardiovascular diseases, and administration of coffee in laboratory settings results in small to moderate acute increases in blood pressure (BP). However, coffee is not conclusively linked to long-term increases in basal BP, and findings are inconsistent by sex. For example, coffee use has been associated with higher tonic BP in men but not women, and nonlinear relations of coffee use to hypertension risk have been observed only in women.
